HCG92 is a compact quintet located in the constellation Pegasus. It is also referred to as Stephan’s Quintet and a member of the Arp catalogue of Peculiar Galaxies, under number Arp319. At a distance of 37 million light-years, HCG92a is located much closer to earth than the other four and is standing completely on its own. It has some extensive HII regions. The remaining four galaxies are an actual compact group of galaxies and are expected to merge in the end. An interesting couple is HCG92b and HCG92d, which are heavily interacting, resulting in a complex spiral-like structure with two nuclei. A photograph of this galaxy group was part of the first set of photos released from the James Webb Space Telescope. Details of all five galaxies are listed in the table below.
